Abstract: The Women's Health Initiative Memory Study (WHI-MS) is an ancillary study to the Women's Health Initiative Hormone Therapy Clinical Trial that will assess the effect of hormone therapy on incidence and progression of cognitive impairment and dementia in postmenopausal women.

The study began enrolling subjects in June of 1996. It is expected that the study will conclude in 2005, at the end of WHI. Women who were currently participating in the Women's Health Initiative Hormone Therapy Clinical Trial and were over the age of 65 were invited to join the WHI-MS. There are 39 WHI Clinical Centers conducting the WHI-MS, with over 5,000 participants enrolled. The Buffalo WHI-MS has 157 active participants enrolled.
