Aleksandra Bykowska, BS, MS

Aleksandra Bykowska.

Aleksandra Bykowska knows exactly what she wants to do with her career—and who she wants to help. “In my home country of Poland, there isn’t a great emphasis on nutrition education,” she said.  “I plan to work as a dietitian in Poland and, in time, apply to a PhD program to extend my knowledge about nutrition and health.”

“The professors, fellow students, interns and patients were always there to help and share their knowledge on various subjects, which helped me grow as a student and an individual. ”

As preparation, Bykowska first earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s in nutrition from UB.

“I initially chose UB since it was a large, very culturally diverse university and had a great Division I athletic program,” said Bykowska, a cross-country runner. “During my undergraduate education here, I had a chance to interact with wonderful faculty members and to conduct research in many of their labs. I wanted to continue my research and education at the same institution that provided me with a rewarding undergraduate experience.”

Valuable Internship Experience

She also completed the Dietetic Internship with Nutrition Advanced Certificate, which combines field experience with graduate study necessary for credentialing as a registered dietitian.

Through the program, her internship sites included Sisters of Charity Hospital, Buffalo General Hospital, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and Meals on Wheels.

The internship was one of her favorite parts of her UB education, in addition to the people. “The professors, fellow students, interns and patients were always there to help and share their knowledge on various subjects, which helped me grow as a student and an individual,” she said.
