Our Students

Alexander Gavronsky

Alexander Gavronsky.

Alexander’s interest in nutrition stem from his own personal life experiences.  At the age of 17, Alexander was diagnosed with stage two hypertension. After changing habits and lowering his blood pressure to a healthy range, he wanted to learn how to help others with similar circumstances.

“It was then that I really became interested in how the body works and how our lifestyle choices impact our health,” explained Alexander.  “When I realized there was a career in dietetics, there was no looking back.”

In UB’s DI program, students are required to participate in a multitude of supervised practice experiences, which amount to a minimum 1200 hours over the 12 month program. Experiences include a clinical nutrition semester, food service and management semester, and finally a research/community wellness semester. Students are also required to take six graduate level classes to earn the SUNY recognized Nutrition Advanced Certificate. Alexander says the program’s curriculum has provided many valuable experiences.

“I had my community rotation at Seneca Nation and my research rotation at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center,” explained Alexander. “The program provided me an opportunity to interact with both patients and professional staff in a variety of health care facilities.”

Alexander recently completed the DI program in 2015 and is now pursuing his master's degree in nutrition at the University at Buffalo.
