Summary

Redfern serves as the associate dean for strategy, planning, and operations of UB's School of Public Health and Health Professions. He is the dean’s chief advisor while working to integrate strategy and planning within day-to-day operational effectiveness, focusing on growth efficiency, and overall advancement. In conjunction with the dean and the school’s leadership, the associate dean is responsible for identifying opportunities and threats, gathering data and information to support decision-making, formulating plans, implementing initiatives, assessing and reporting progress, and identifying and exploring issues and solutions. Redfern oversees the staff in the areas of information and technology services, data analysis, and facilities and space planning.

He has been with UB since 2003 and has worked in or overseen academic affairs, student affairs, information technology, facilities, research administration, human resources and finance. His latest position was with UB's School of Nursing where he held the role of associate dean for administrative services and chief financial officer.

Redfern holds a bachelor’s degree in economics, and master’s degrees in higher education administration and business administration. He also has formal training in strategic planning, managerial analysis, project management, process improvement, and change management.

Before and during college, he served honorably with the US Army (1994-1997, field artillery) and NY State National Guard (1997-2002, infantry).
