UB Faculty in Leadership Program

Background

Over the years, many University at Buffalo faculty members have expressed interest in exploring the possibility of augmenting their research and scholarly activities with administrative responsibilities. Recognizing that UB faculty are interested in university administration and that faculty participation in university administration is important to the vitality of the campus, the Faculty in Leadership Program was inaugurated. Since its inception, UB's Faculty in Leadership program has proven to be a rewarding experience for its participants, including one faculty fellow who was chosen for the prestigious ACE Fellowship Program and one faculty fellow who is a recognized leader in the Top 25 Ambition Strategic Strength, Integrated Nanostructured Systems.

Program

The Faculty in Leadership Program pairs a faculty member with a senior UB administrative officer from the Office of the President and/or the Office of the Provost for the full academic year. Faculty members are assigned to a project introducing them to an important and timely issue in higher education administration.  It is expected that the faculty member's research and scholarly experiences will contribute to such a project.  Further, the faculty member accompanies, when appropriate, his or her administrator-mentor to relevant meetings, thereby, further enhancing the faculty member's knowledge of university-level administrative issues.

Moreover, the Faculty in Leadership Program provides UB faculty with a unique opportunity to learn about university administration and enables them to determine if they have an interest in pursing university administration in addition to their traditional faculty responsibilities.
