Project name: Gait Across the Decades

Project description: The “Gait Across the Decades” project is a research initiative aimed at understanding how lower extremity muscle activation patterns and gait mechanics change across different age groups. This study is designed to collect and analyze motion capture data from healthy participants across various age decades—ranging from young adults to older adults—using advanced technologies such as VICON motion capture cameras and EMG (electromyography).

Project goals: The Goals are to assess 3D gait using motion capture cameras, sensors to capture muscle activity, and in-ground force plates for healthy people up to age 80.

Project tasks: Place markers and sensors on subjects, run software for data capture and help to summarize biomechanical data.

Duration of research experience: Summer, Fall

Time commitment: 3-6 hours per week
