John H. Stone, PhD, MPA, joined UB in 1991 and was a clinical associate professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Science.
Before becoming a faculty member at UB, Stone held faculty positions in Brazil for 17 years. At UB, he initially worked as education director in the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Aging and the Center for Assistive Technology. Since 1999, he has directed the federally-funded Center for International Rehabilitation Research Information and Exchange (view some archived CIRRIE resources).
A former Peace Corps Volunteer in India, his interests include international rehabilitation and the relationship between culture and disability. He has edited a book on culture and disability, a 13 volume monograph series, "The Rehabilitation Provider's Guide to Cultures of the Foreign-Born" and co-edited "The International Encyclopedia of Rehabilitation." He also co-directed a study abroad program, Health in Brazil, and is a past co-director of the WHO Collaborating Center on Health in Housing.
