Abstract: This is a random-digit-dialed health risk appraisal for the eight counties of Western New York. The design of the project is a cross-sectional telephone survey of adults aged 18 years or older, based on nearly 100,000 phone calls using random-digit-dial protocol, stratified by county. The survey is a follow up to an earlier community health assessment conducted between 1998 and 1999. We will repeat the use of the HRA instrument design (for trend analysis), with the insertion of additional questions related to the working uninsured and the “Target Your Heart- know your numbers” questions pertaining to cholesterol and hypertension, physical activity and obesity to the current training programs, and promote the development of minority scientists.
