Karen Craik, EdD, MHA, joined the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health in August 2025 as a clinical assistant professor. She holds a Doctorate in health administration and policy, and a Master of Science degree in health administration from D’Youville University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Education from Slippery Rock University. Her professional background includes leadership roles at HEALTHeLINK, the Population Health Collaborative and the American Cancer Society, where she led regional health improvement initiatives, developed strategic health programs and advocated for equitable health policies.
Her teaching philosophy emphasizes student-centered, experiential learning that bridges academic theory with real-world public health practice. She integrates case studies, simulations and community engagement into her courses to prepare students for the complexities of modern public health challenges.
Craik is an active contributor to the field through peer-reviewed publications, manuscript reviews and guest lectures at institutions including the University at Buffalo. She serves on multiple boards, including the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Cazenovia Recovery Systems and the Community Health Equity Research Institute. She is also a mentor with the NYS Department of Health Public Health Corps.
A dedicated mentor and educator, Craik served as an adjunct professor and practicum coordinator in the Master of Public Health program at Daemen University, where she taught courses in health policy, ethics, cultural competency, and public health theory. Her work is driven by a commitment to health equity, interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of future public health.
