Role : PI
Amount: $30,000
Project: Potential of inhibition of Poly ADP Ribose Polymerase as a therapeutic approach in blast-induced cochlear and brain injury.
Major Goal: To determine the mechanisms underlying both the peripheral and central aspects of blast-induced auditory neurodegeneration; and to identify and characterize the potential of PARP inhibition as a therapeutic target for manifestations of blast-induced traumatic brain injury, including hearing loss, cochlear synaptopathy, tinnitus, and associated deficits.
DOD-BAA-Short Term Innovative Award
07/01/2020 - 09/30/2021
Role : PI
Amount: $60,000
Project: Behavioral evidence of tinnitus and its correlation with ABR wave metrics in chinchilla induced by blast injury.
Major Goal: To characterize the behavioral evidence of blast-induced tinnitus in chinchillas using Preyer’s reflex (flexion of pinna) as a reliable marker of the startle response along with whole body movement and by adopting a new statistical approach, rather than by simple averaging of measured pre-pulse inhibition (PPI) values.

Role : PI
Amount: $10,000
Project: A Comprehensive Assessment of Vestibular Impairment In Individuals With A History Of Impact Brain Injury And Non-Impact Blast Exposure
Major Goal: To determine the impact of blast exposure on the functional integrity of the vestibular system using a comprehensive battery of vestibular tests and to compare and correlate the balance measures with the integrity of vestibular function.

Project: Mapping of Metabolic profiles with the structural connectivity of the auditory pathway in blast traumatic brain injury
Major Goal: This study of CBI Pilot program seeks to characterize the disruption of metabolic homeostasis following repetitive moderate intensity blast exposure using spectrum analysis of chemical metabolites in Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS).

Project: Hearing loss by the synergistic effect of chronic inhalation exposure of manganese fumes with occupational noise exposure.
Major Goal: To collect preliminary data to characterize the potentiating effect of occupational noise on Mn ototoxicity using the inhalation route of exposure and using rats as an experimental model.
