Zhongzheng Niu is a current Epidemiology PhD student.
I became interested in epidemiology and environmental health when I was on a project looking at the association and mechanism between secondhand smoke exposure during pregnancy and birth weight. I found epidemiology to be a powerful tool, used to investigated the real cause of diseases scientifically. Through the knowledge gained in this field, I also believe that epidemiology has the great potential to improve public health.
I chose UB for its reputation based on the numerous prestigious research achievements and the rigorous doctorate training program offered in epidemiology.
My experience in this program has been nothing short of amazing. The quality of the courses is outstanding and I have had many opportunities to gain research experience. The department itself is also very supportive. It is like one big family!
I would say my favorite thing about this program is the rigorous training in the epidemiological intuitions.
Receiving my doctorate in epidemiology from UB will definitely help me in the future. I know I will be prepared to conduct the research I want to pursue and I'll be able to realize a career path in the future.
