Hi, I’m Kevin Boasiako, a sophomore at the University at Buffalo studying Public Health. I’m currently conducting research with the Center for Climate Change and Environmental Health in the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health, focusing on how climate change affects different age groups, such as adults, children, and the elderly here in Buffalo.
Climate change isn’t just about warmer summers; it also brings extreme weather that affects our health. In Buffalo, the cold, blizzards, and harsh winter storms pose serious risks, especially for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly. These weather extremes can lead to problems like hypothermia, respiratory issues from poor air quality, and even increased rates of certain health problems due to the stress cold weather places on the body.
In my research, I review the literature to better understand how people in Buffalo are impacted by these climate changes and the challenges they face in accessing information.
This blog breaks down complex information into easy-to-understand posts about how climate change impacts health and what resources are available in the area to help.
I’m passionate about climate change because I believe the more, we talk about it, the more we can work together to protect ourselves and our community. Staying informed is one of the best ways we can take care of our health and help reduce the effects of climate change in the long run.
