Abstract: Children with special health care needs—which include chronic conditions such as ADHD, Autism, Depression, Down Syndrome, or Spina Bifida—are at greater risk of developing hospital complications following physical trauma. However, the reasons for this are unknown. The purpose of this study is to identify factors contributing to complications and other negative outcomes through interviews with family caregivers seeking emergency care for their injured child with special health care needs.
