Kunjan Shah

Kunjan Shah.

With an undergraduate degree in physiotherapy, Kunjan Shah was certain he wanted to further his education with a master’s degree in exercise science. After considering many factors, he was equally as confident that the University at Buffalo was the best place to do so.

“UB is a research-based university—highly recognized all over the world as part of the SUNY system—and has a very large pool of international students, which put it on the top of my list. ”

“UB is a research-based university—highly recognized all over the world as part of the SUNY system—and has a very large pool of international students, which put it on the top of my list,” he said. “And of course, Buffalo is a nice and quiet place to stay.”

Comprehensive Public Health Offerings

While in the program, Shah said he appreciated the varied disciplines housed within UB’s School of Public Health and Health Professions, including community health and health behavior, biostatistics, rehabilitation science and social and preventive medicine. “This made it easier to meet and interact with other health professionals,” he said.

International Student Activities

Shah, from Ahmedabad, India, advises international students to make the most of their time at UB by participating in student organizations and department seminars. He said the events organized by the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) were especially helpful. Throughout the school year, the ISSS plans trips and activities to help international students explore the Buffalo area. Events range from cross-country skiing, bowling, paintball and tours of the area to attending concerts and karaoke.

Career Success

After graduation and becoming certified to practice physical therapy in the United States, Shah has been working as a physical therapist with developmentally disabled populations in New York City.
