Early-bird pricing for certified Six Sigma, Lean courses

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE) is offering early-bird discounts until Dec. 20 for two certification programs.  

The savings include $300 off Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (CLSSGB) One-on-One and $100 off Certified Lean Professional (CLP).

The courses are part of TCIE’s spring schedule of operational excellence courses for professionals, which range from one-day seminars to the 6-month CLSSGB program. Registration is on a first-serve basis, with the payment deadline being 10 days before the respective start date.

• CLSSGB One-on-One — This course consists of 36 hours of online education and personal mentoring/coaching from a Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. The course enhances candidates’ problem-solving abilities and engages them in the data-driven, LSS industry-tested system for process variation reduction. The early-bird rate of $2,695 is valid for a Jan. 6 or Feb. 3 start. The price is $2,995 after Dec. 20.
• Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action — 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Jan. 28 at UB’s Center for Tomorrow, North Campus, Amherst. This course provides an understanding of the processes and techniques for determining the root cause of a nonconformance and the corrective action needed to prevent the problem from recurring. The cost is $395.
• CLP — This 33 ½-hour course educates participants in the Lean method of saving money and reducing waste by identifying unnecessary processes. Classes are held at UB’s Baird Research Park, 1576 Sweet Home Road, Amherst, as follows: Classes: 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays, Jan. 30 to April 30 (except Feb. 20, and April 9 and 16). Project review sessions: July 16 and 23 (each participant has one 30-minute, one-on-one project review session with the instructor on one of the two dates). The cost is $1,295 until Dec. 20 and $1,395 thereafter.
• Value Stream Mapping — 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Feb. 5 at Baird Research Park. This course introduces a diagnostic tool for identifying and quantifying waste in a process, and the first step in the journey to determining the root cause of a problem. The cost is $395.
• Intro to FMEA — 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the Center for Tomorrow. This course is recommended for design and manufacturing engineers who are involved in the product development process and want to learn how to avoid potential failures in design. The cost is $395.
• Creating and Controlling Instructional Documents — 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Center for Tomorrow. This course explores characteristics of effective instructional documentation (such as procedures, work instructions and standard operating procedures) and the process of document control. The cost is $395.
• Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt – This 96-hour course propels Black Belts to expert status, preparing them to become champions of improvement who create a strategic continuous improvement vision and lead culture change. Classes are held at Baird Research Park per the following schedule: 9 a.m.-to 4 p.m. on March 2, 3, 10, 16, 30; April 7 and 27; May 4 and 18; June 1, 8, 16, 22; 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on March 17 and May 12; 9 a.m.-noon on March 24 and 31, and June 23. The exam date is June 30. The cost is $10,000.
• Design of Experiments – 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on March 4 and 5 at Baird Research Park. This course educates participants in the analytical approach of identifying factors most important to the success of an improvement project. The cost is $695.    
• 3-Day ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor Training — 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on March 17-19 at the Center for Tomorrow. This training prepares participants with the skills necessary to perform internal process audits in manufacturing, service and public service sectors. The cost is $1,095.
• Data Visualization – 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on March 25 at Baird Research Park. This course explores the benefits of using simple graphs to describe and attach meaning to data, how to collect data, and how to get more out of the data you’re already collecting. The cost is $395.
• Coaching Culture (Kata) – 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on April 8 at Baird Research Park. This course provides a forum for defining Lean culture and ways that Lean leadership can foster an environment of sustained continuous improvement across all organizational functions. The cost is $395.
• 5S and Standardized Work — 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on May 6 at Baird Research Park. This course examines the appropriate way to engage employees in 5S (organizing the physical space) and standardized work (organizing how work is done), so they grasp how these tools can make their work lives easier while improving the company. The cost is $395.
