Yanli Li.

Areas of interest: Cancer epidemiology, environmental epidemiology, air pollution
Mentor: Lina Mu, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor, Epidemiology and Environmental Health

Before attending UB, Yanli Li worked as an infectious disease epidemiologist in China. Many of her current research interests involve her native country, including her doctoral dissertation where she will study the biological responses to the drastic changes in air pollution throughout the course of the Beijing Olympics.

“In addition, I have been involved with several projects to explore the effects of green tea drinking on primary liver cancer risk and indoor air pollution and its effects on lung cancer risk in the Chinese population,” she said. “My research activities at UB help me think critically and develop the necessary skills to conduct epidemiological research in an international setting.”

After graduation, Li plans to work in an international, bilateral agency or nongovernmental organization to continue her research in improving the health of people in developing countries.
