One-Year Accelerated MPH

For highly qualified applicants, we offer an accelerated 12-month course of study that culminates in an MPH degree.

Applicants must have a terminal degree (MD, PhD, JD, etc.) or significant post-baccalaureate public health work experience to be considered for the accelerated program.

Applicants who do not possess a terminal degree, or who have no prior post-baccalaureate experience working in a healthcare organization, qualify for the standard MPH only.

Our rigorous program is geared towards applicants who can devote 12 consecutive months to intensive public health coursework and related field training and culminating project requirements. This means that students need to take courses during summer and/or winter sessions, as well as traditional fall and spring semesters. Given that this rigorous program condenses two years of study into one, students should devote themselves to this program full time.

For admission to the Accelerated One-Year MPH Degree program, additional factors will be evaluated on an individual basis on the following criteria:

  • Relevant public health work experience.
  • Academic performance in health sciences, e.g. medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, therapeutic sciences, as evidenced by college/university transcripts.
  • Contact information for three references.
  • Succinct 600-800 word personal statement about how you became interested in public health and describe how your public health career goals relate to the MPH concentration in which you are most interested. Be sure to indicate your interest in the one-year accelerated program in your personal statement.

Timing of MPH Program Components

One-year accelerated MPH students will complete coursework in their first and second (fall and spring) semester, and an MPH field training experience and culminating project in their second semester, or during a winter or summer semester.
