International students: This qualifies as a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program, which provides an additional 24 months Optional Practical Training (OPT) for F-1 visa holders who begin the program in fall 2021 or later. Apply online to the PhD program through the graduate school website. The online application is fast, easy and secure. A $50 non-refundable fee is required.
Apply by April 15 for fall semester admission; the deadline for applying for fellowships and assistantships is Jan. 15.

Before you submit your online application, ensure that you have all of the supplemental materials ready.
With your online application, you will be able to upload transcripts, your resume and personal statement. Three letters of reference will be requested through the e-mail addresses of the recommenders.
You should request that your TOEFL scores are sent to UB.
