Non-affiliated Field Training Sites
It is possible to complete your field training with a state, federal or international agency with whom UB does not have an affiliation agreement; however, only after consultation with and approval from your faculty advisor.
Possible sites include:
- AARP offers internship opportunities in a wide array of areas for undergraduates, graduates and post graduates. Internships are available throughout the organization, including the national office in Washington, D.C. and offices located in the states and U.S. Territories. AARP offers internships to students who are currently enrolled in degree seeking programs. Summer internships typically last 8-12 weeks. Year round internships can extend up to 12 months.
- Allan Rosenfield Public Policy Fellowship Program at amfAR - Full time, paid fellowships up to six months in Washington, DC. Applicants should have strong writing and research skills.
- Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH)
- ASPPH/CDC Public Health Internships - Ten-week, paid, summer internships.
- ASPPH Headquarters Internships - Ten-week, paid, summer internships at ASPPH headquarters in Washington, DC. Applications generally due in early-mid March.
- CDC - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Internships - Postings change regularly, so check often. Note the dates, duration and eligibility requirements of the programs listed; they are not all short-term and some may not be suitable for MPH students.
- Child Family Health International - Delivering community-based child health education programs.
- Clinton Foundation - Many internship opportunities; 24-40 hours per week in the fall and spring, and 30-40 hours per week in the summer. Need-based stipends may be available.
- Department of Homeland Security Education Programs - Applications are generally accepted through mid-December for the following summer.

- Regulatory Science Student Internship Program - Applications generally accepted through March of each year.
- Science Internship Program - FDA's National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR).
- Global Service Corps - A nonprofit international volunteer organization providing service-learning opportunities for people worldwide to live and work abroad in Thailand and Tanzania. Programs include HIV/AIDS prevention, agriculture and food security and community development.
- Health Research and Services Administration (HRSA) Graduate Student Epidemiology Program (GSEP) - Paid, summer internship. Projects and deadlines vary.
- Health Research and Services Administration (HRSA) Public Health Internship Program - One semester rotation in one of HRSA's offices.
- IMPAQ International - Paid internships for students in research and operations. Some experience in economics, health policy, social policy, public policy, or related fields; report preparation; knowledge SAS, STATA, and/or other statistical or applications helpful.
- James A. Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program - A paid, nine-week summer internship focused on infectious diseases and health disparities. Fellows from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications are generally accepted through January of each year.
- Margaret E. Mahoney Fellowship Program - Paid summer internship focused on health care delivery transformation for vulnerable populations and/or early childhood health and development, with an emphasis on policy implications.
- National Cancer Institute - Internships available in numerous programs.
- National Institutes of Health - Typically, the summer program begins May 1 and ends Sept. 30. Students should plan to spend a minimum of eight weeks during this interval. Online applications are due by March 1, but it is always good to complete applications sooner.
- Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Internship and Practicum Program - Internships and practicums available at PAHO headquarters in Washington, DC, or in PAHO country offices. Internships are unpaid and range from 2 to 6 months. Practicums are unpaid and range from 2 months to 1 year.
- United Nations Internship Programme - Various internship opportunities at the New York office or around the world.
- United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Global Health Internships - Paid and unpaid.

- World Health Organization (WHO) Internship Programme - Unpaid internships of 6 to 12 weeks (full-time) in WHO headquarters, regional or country offices.
