When cost is a deciding factor in attending college, it's hard to find a better value than UB. Find helpful information on tuition and financial aid.
If you are applying to a graduate program using SOPHAS, SOPHAS offers fee assistance to qualified low income students, students who have participated in some service-based organizations (AmeriCorps, McNair, Peace Corps, Gates Millennium Scholars, Vietnam Education Foundation, and Leadership Alliance). Some international students may also be eligible.
Applicants who provide sufficient documentation of their participation as an undergraduate student in an EOP, HEOP or SEEK program within New York State (only), or as an undergraduate participant in the CSTEP, MARC, PREP, RISE, LSAMP or McNair Scholars programs on any campus, or as an applicant through Project 1000, may qualify.
Contact the graduate program coordinator for the department you are applying to.
The department is committed to financially supporting its PhD students. Most students receive stipends and/or tuition scholarships and are supported throughout their graduate careers in the department. All eligible students are considered for financial support at the time of admission by the admissions committee. Appointments are for one year with the possibility of renewal for additional years.
Most of our PhD students receive graduate assistantships. Students with assistantships receive a 12-month stipend of $30,797 along with a full tuition scholarship and health care coverage. Students with graduate assistantships work 20 hours per week. Responsibilities include functioning as a teaching assistant and/or working on research projects. Assistantships complement your learning experiences by providing the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge you have gained.
International students may take into consideration that while CHHB typically can support international students with a stipend and tuition scholarship at the New York in-state tuition level, fees and the full cost of international students are not covered.
