UB’s Athletic Training Program has achieved full reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), marking a significant milestone in the program’s development and excellence in education.
UB’s program, housed in the School of Public Health and Health Professions, has been granted 10 years of continuing accreditation, the longest period possible, affirming its high standards in curriculum, faculty expertise and student training.
CAATE, the sole accreditor of athletic training programs in the U.S., ensures that programs adhere to the rigorous educational requirements necessary for professional practice in the field.
“This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, preceptors and students,” says Ryan Krzyzanowicz, director of the AT program. “Earning the longest accreditation period available demonstrates the strength and quality of our program and validates the commitment we have to preparing our students for successful careers as athletic trainers.”
Athletic training is a critical health care profession focused on the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. As an allied health profession recognized by the American Medical Association, athletic training requires extensive education and hands-on experience to ensure professionals are equipped to provide comprehensive care.
In 2020, UB’s AT program was among the first nationally to implement CAATE’s most recent standards, which mandate that all accredited programs confer a master’s degree in athletic training. These standards also ensure that students gain the essential skills needed to excel in the profession, such as advanced clinical competencies like injections and suturing, which are now considered entry-level skills for athletic trainers.
