Applicants for the MSAT must apply through ATCAS. Applications open on July 1, 2025, and admission is rolling.

The ATCAS priority deadline is Dec. 31, 2025. All materials must be submitted by April 1, 2026. Applicants will also be required to submit a $50 non-refundable fee to the University at Buffalo for their ATCAS application to be considered, in addition to the ATCAS fee. Summer classes for 2026 are scheduled to begin on Tues., May 26, 2026. You may qualify for an application fee waiver from ATCAS, the University or both. This application is for current University at Buffalo students who are applying for the combined 3+2 BS in Exercise Science/MS in Athletic Training program. This application opens on July 1, 2025, for summer 2026 start and admissions is rolling. Students apply through the UB Graduate School Application Manager.

• GPA: 3.0 overall. 
• Observation hours: 10 hours of observation with an athletic trainer is required. If a potential applicant is having difficulty obtaining observation hours, please contact program director Ryan Krzyzanowicz at ryankrzy@buffalo.edu.
• Letters of recommendation: Two letters, preferably one from the athletic trainer with whom you completed observation experiences.
  
• Personal statement: A written statement (~800 words) describing professional goals and interests.

• Psychology
• Nutrition
• Exercise Physiology
• Biomechanics or Kinesiology
• Statistics

We do not require lab sections for chemistry, physics, biology or anatomy and physiology.

• Applicants are reviewed on a holistic basis taking into account your previous coursework, experiences and entire application packet.
• After a preliminary review of applications, the admissions committee will extend an invitation to interview to students who meet the requirements and demonstrate potential for success as graduate students in a professional program at the University at Buffalo. Interviews will be conducted face to face and/or via video conferencing.
• Enrollment is limited. Students are selected upon evaluation of the following factors: completion of admissions requirements, including prerequisite coursework; academic ability; evidence of potential for future practice as an athletic trainer; interview performance; and evidence of personality traits indicating an ability to work effectively with people.

After the formal interview, students accepted for admissions will receive a letter of acceptance from the Athletic Training program director. This letter will contain more information about next steps to confirm your acceptance.
