Dr. Francine Laden is a professor of environmental epidemiology and associate chair of the Department of Environmental Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and an associate professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Laden received her ScD in epidemiology and MS in environmental health from the Harvard School of Public Health. She is an author on over 300 peer reviewed publications on environmental epidemiology of chronic diseases and outcomes (including but not limited to cancer, cardiovascular disease, mental health and reproductive outcomes). Her recent research interests focus on the geographic distribution of risk, incorporating geographic information system technology into large cohort studies to explore health effects of environmental exposures, including air pollution, noise, and greenspace, and of social determinants of health. Laden is a past member of the EPA Science Advisory Board and past president of the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE). She is the recipient of the 2023 John Goldsmith Award from ISEE for outstanding contributions to environmental epidemiology.
