Shaughn Regan

Shaughn Regan.

Shaughn Regan always had a passion for the human body and knew he wanted a career as a health care professional. After considering his many options, he focused his attention on physical therapy.

“I loved the hands-on approach to treatment,” he said. “PTs seemed to have such a vast knowledge of movement-based disorders, and that soon became my interest as well. More importantly, I loved how much time physical therapists get to spend with their patients and how well they get to know them. I think that is an essential part to being a good clinician.”

Advanced Learning Opportunities

Knowing what he valued about the profession, Regan sought a DPT program that matched his priorities and that offered a welcoming environment. He found it at UB.

“UB was so accessible,” said Regan. “Right from the start, the undergraduate advisers explained the prerequisites, admissions and the curriculum, and they told me about the professors themselves. No other university made me feel that comfortable and prepared for what to expect in the years to come.

“I was also drawn to the clinical aspect of the program,” he continued. “UB offered more clinical experience than any other school I had seen.”

Regan’s favorite part of the program was the fellowship. “I loved how close our class became,” he said. “Everyone was like a big family, and the classroom was a cooperative environment rather than a competitive one.”

Professional Success

Today, Regan is a licensed physical therapist at Results Physiotherapy, an outpatient manual therapy group based in Nashville, Tenn. He is working towards becoming a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT) and Orthopaedic Certified Specialist (OCS).
