Kara Labounty.

Kara Labounty had always appreciated the way food could be used to heal the human body so a career in nutrition was a natural choice.

After completing her undergraduate study in nutrition/dietetics at Syracuse University, she arrived at UB to begin her Dietetic Internship. She completed the 1,200 hours of supervised practice that is required to sit for the registered dietitian national examination. UB’s program also includes 15 credit hours of graduate study that leads to a Nutrition Advanced Certificate.

"The best parts of the program have been the wide variety of experiences I have had and the nutrition conditions I have been exposed to; I feel like I’ve learned so much in such a short amount of time," she said.

"I love interacting with patients. When I have the chance to talk to a patient face to face, the nutrition assessment process makes much more sense. During that process, I’ve learned that it is very important to look at the whole picture, and acquire as much information as possible on specific clients and patients to accurately and thoroughly assess them."
