Requirements and Curriculum

To apply to the Coaching Minor program, you must be a matriculated student at UB in good academic standing with a minimum overall grade point average of 2.0. You must have completed at least one semester at UB at the time you apply.

No prerequisite course requirements for admission; however, you must complete the ES 256 Principles of Coaching course with a B or better before enrolling in the other courses in the minor.

Curriculum

The coaching minor requires eight courses (20-22 credits), including the following:

Required (4 credits)

  • ES 256 Principles of Coaching – 3 cr. (hybrid)
  • ES 254 CPR and First Aid** – 1 cr.

Choose 4 (11-12 credits)

  • ES 353 Technology in Sport (online)–3 cr.
  • ES 428 Health Promotion, Prevention, and Wellness–3 cr.
  • ES 435* Health Coaching and Behavior Modification–3 cr.
  • ES 352 Sports Nutrition for Coaches* (non-exercise science majors, online)–3 cr., or ES 402 Exercise Nutrition* (exercise science majors only)–2 cr.
  • NTR 401 Nutrition and Health*–3 cr.

Choose 2 of the following (5-6 credits)

  • ES 220 Movement Analysis*–2 cr.
  • ES 255 Coaching Youth Sports (online)–3 cr.
  • ES 251 Women, Gender & Sport (online)–3 cr.
  • ES 208 Human Form & Function II (online)–3 cr.

*NTR 108 is a required prerequisite for ES 402; NTR 108 or NTR 109 is a required prerequisite for NTR 401; NTR 108 and NTR 109 are required prerequisites for ES 352; PSY 101 is a required prerequisite for ES 435; ES 207 or PAS 313 is a required prerequisite for ES 220

**CPR/First Aid requirement can be satisfied by taking an approved course outside of UB
