Perry N Halkitis, Ph.D., M.S., M.P.H., is dean, Rutgers School of Public Health, where he also serves as Hunterdon Professor of Public Health & Health Equity, and Distinguished Professor of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. Halkitis is the founder and director of the Center for Health, Identity, Behavior & Prevention Studies (CHIBPS), which is an interdisciplinary research center that focuses on disparities in infectious diseases such as HIV, substance use and mental health in sexual, gender and/or minority populations. In support of his research, Halkitis has received numerous major grants from the NIH and other extramural funders, typically serving as a PI or co-investigator.

Halkitis received his PhD in Quantitative Methods in Educational & Psychological Research and also holds an MPH in epidemiology, and Masters’ degrees in educational psychology and human development. He has published numerous award-winning books on Gay Men, AIDS and Methamphetamine Addiction. Along with his books, Halkitis has been very actively engaged in disseminating research in some 300 peer-reviewed publications. He also regularly participates in media interviews and podcasts about LGBTQ issues and a range of public health topics. Among numerous professional honors and awards, Halkitis is a Fellow in multiple Divisions of the American Psychological Association, the European Academy of Translational Medicine, and the Society of Behavioral Medicine. Most recently, he received the J. Michael McGinnis Leadership Excellence Award from the Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science.
