Student Research Opportunities

center for research and education in special environments.

We are looking for students interested in hands-on learning in the HEAT Lab on UB's South Campus. Students participate in all aspects of the research process including participant recruitment and management, eligibility screenings, and active data collection while working with Dr. Pryor and a team of graduate students and research technicians.

  • Successful students are interested and engaged in the topic, eager to learn, have great organizational and problem-solving skills, and can work independently and in teams.
  • Students interested in taking a deeper look into environmental exercise physiology topics have the opportunity to create their own research project or analyze results of our studies and present our findings at local conferences.
  • Doctoral students and masters students can complete their degree at UB while learning in the HEAT Lab for their dissertation, thesis, or project. Students typically complete degrees in Exercise Science from the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences but have also completed masters degrees in Athletic Training and Biological Sciences. Undergraduate students across a variety of fields (Exercise Science, Biological Sciences, Nutrition, Public Health, Chemistry, etc.) can complete Independent Research, Practicum, and Internship courses in the lab.
  • Students typically commit to learning in the lab for 5-10 hours per week, ideally for at least two semesters. Research schedules are ever-changing, so flexibility is a plus. Previous research experience is not required.
  • Students completing learning experiences in the lab have gone on to medical school, nursing school, doctoral programs to become professors, and are employed as athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, and researchers.
